China’s plate exporters raise prices on tighter supply

Chinese plate exporters are raising prices on tightening supply as several major producers embark on scheduled equipment overhauls.

Fastmarkets MB’s assessment for April shipments of commercial-grade, chromium-added plate was $545-555 per tonne fob for the week ended Tuesday March 5, up $5-10 per tonne from $535-550 per tonne fob the week prior. A trader in Zhejiang province bought some small tonnages of plate (under 1,000 tonnes) from a northern China-based mill at $545 per tonne early this week, which is to be shipped to South Korea.
