EUROPE STAINLESS STEEL: Prices flat but higher surcharges raise offer prices

Prices for long and flat stainless steel products in Europe were stable this week, but higher prices were beginning to emerge in the market following the increase in monthly surcharges, market participants told Fastmarkets on Friday March 8.

The March surcharges for grade-304 cold-rolled (CR) stainless sheets increased to €1,308-1,351 ($1,474-1,522) per tonne on March 1, according to data released by Outokumpu, Acerinox and Aperam. This was up by €116-118 per tonne from the surcharges in February. The full rise has not yet been fully implemented in trading, but higher offers were beginning to emerge. The price of grade-304 CR sheets, delivered Northern Europe, was unchanged week on week at €2,100-2,150 per tonne on March 8.
