GLOBAL TUNGSTEN WRAP: Tight conc supply buoys China APT price

Concentrates tightness in China continued to lend support to the ammonium paratungstate (APT) market in the region and encouraged prices to move up, while prices in Europe were stable amid weak buying interest.

APT prices in China supported by continued tightness in concentrates supply. Talks of a new round of inspections in Jiangxi province bolster market sentiment. Ferro-tungsten prices maintain higher level amid limited prompt availability, although weak demand could cap further gains. Fastmarkets MB assessed the China export APT price at $270-277 per metric tonne unit (mtu) fob China on Wednesday March 20, up from $268-277 per mtu on March 13. A tight concentrate supply continued to support the APT market in China last week, although demand began to slow, market sources said. “After some of the biggest overseas buyers finished covering material for prompt production, fewer inquiries have been heard in the market,” one Chinese APT exporter said, adding that he completed only one order for 20 tonnes this week.
