BAUXITE & ALUMINA CONF: Market has no fears over ATH supplies in 2019

The availability of alumina hydrate (ATH) in the North American market was not expected to be a problem in 2019 despite producer Norsk Hydro’s Alunorte bauxite mine in northern Brazil still running at half-capacity, market participants have told Fastmarkets.

Speaking to Fastmarkets in Miami during last week’s 25th Bauxite & Alumina Conference, both sellers and users of the raw material were confident about the supply situation for the months ahead.
The reasons they gave included expanding domestic production in the United States, which was expected to balance out any additional gaps created by the continuing production curtailment in Brazil.
