IREPAS BARCELONA: Global rebar consumption’s outlook positive despite tough market conditions

Global rebar consumption reached 383 million tonnes in 2018, up by 1.8% against 2017 and reaching the highest level of consumption in the last 10 years, according to Celsa Group.

Worldwide rebar consumption in 2019 will not decline lower than it was in 2018 despite toughening market conditions such as uncertainty, volatility, trade wars and a weakening global economy, Celsa Group's international commercial director, Daniel González, forecast at the 80th meeting of the International Rebar Exporters & Producers Association (Irepas), held in Barcelona on April 7-9. Out of the total global rebar consumption figure, 258 million tonnes or 67.4% was consumed by Asian markets in 2018, up from 248 million tonnes in 2017.
