The company has set an internal target of reducing carbon emissions by 300,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2022, Ivan Arriagada told Fastmarkets in an interview during the annual CESCO week in Santiago, Chile.
“We’re very focused working on achieving that target,” he added.
In 2017, the company's CO2 emissions per tonne of copper produced were 3.87 tonnes.
According to Arriagada, Antofagasta is sensitive as a company to climate change and believes copper plays a very fundamental role as an enabler to a low carbon emission economy, through electromobility, clean energy generation and renewables.
