South32 considers divesting manganese alloy assets

Miner South32 is considering divesting its manganese alloy assets in Australia and South Africa due to “changes in market dynamics,” it has announced.

The miner - which is listed in London, Australia and Johannesburg - owns manganese ore and alloy assets in both countries through its 60% stake in Samancor Manganese, a joint venture with Anglo American.
“South32 is reviewing options for our manganese alloys smelters. We have two operations producing manganese alloys – Metalloys in Gauteng, South Africa, and Temco in Tasmania, Australia,” a spokesperson for South32 said in a statement emailed to Fastmarkets.
