US structural tubing prices slide again; hurt by coil, slow buying

Prices for domestically produced structural tubing in the United States dropped for the fifth consecutive week after substrate prices tumbled and distributors were confident they could procure inventory later at a lower cost.

"Things seem to be faltering pretty fast here," a mill source said.  Fastmarkets AMM's weekly pricing assessment of US domestic A500 hollow structural sections (HSS) declined to a new range of $890-940 per short ton ($44.50-47 per hundredweight) fob mill on Thursday May 30, down by 2.7% from the previous range of $920-960 per ton ($46-48 per cwt) on May 23.  An East Coast distributor said buyers who need material do not need to wait long if they're looking for a cheaper price.
