US structural tubing price widens lower; market eyes bottom

Prices for domestically produced structural tubing in the United States weakened for a ninth straight week after hot-rolled coil substrate costs descended to their lowest point in two-and-a-half years.

Fastmarkets AMM's weekly pricing assessment for US domestic A500 hollow structural sections (HSS) slipped to a new range of $840-880 per ton ($42-44 per hundredweight) fob mill on Thursday June 27, widening downward from the previous range of $860-880 per ton ($43-44 per cwt) on June 20.  The latest decline occurred during the same week that steelmakers announced $40-per-ton ($2-per-cwt) price increases on sheet products.
