Brazilian aluminium importers express concern over delay in quota renewal

Brazilian aluminium importers have been affected by a delay in the renewal of an import quota for P1020A ingot, which is hindering delivery of cargoes into the country, market sources told Fastmarkets.

The previous quota, which allowed for 282,500 tonnes of aluminium ingot to be imported into Brazil without a 6% duty, covered a one-year period that ended on July 3. The quota was completely filled during that period.
Details of when the quota will be renewed have not been forthcoming, causing some market participants to worry that the quota has been done away with completely.

Some domestic finished goods producers in Brazil depend on imports for their raw material needs and the removal of the quota would make it very difficult for these producers to continue their operations as usual, market sources...
