US structural tubing prices flat; mills clearing floor stock

Prices for domestically produced structural tubing in the United States held steady while mills prepared to fully implement a June price increase but were still clearing some stock at lower prices.

One mill source said any remaining discounting would be short-lived and the whole of the price increase would be collected. Buyers reported placing more tubing orders after increases in Fastmarkets AMM's hot-rolled coil index demonstrated that the rise in prices for hollow structural sections (HSS) seems to have some legitimacy.  "The last two weeks have played in favor of the mills," a southern distributor said. "At the mills, they don't have a lot of floor stock right now. You're looking out to August rollings. Three weeks ago, there was stock everywhere."
