Ghana Manganese will resume operations after notice to shut down

Ghana Manganese Corp (GMC) has been asked by Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to resume operations after being ordered to shut down earlier this week, according to a letter seen by Fastmarkets.

The operation is Ghana’s sole manganese producer and subsidiary of Consmin, which was bought by China’s Ningxia Tianyuan Manganese in 2016. It was ordered to shut down amid claims it has caused the state of Ghana to lose $350 million in revenue, according to widespread press reports in the West African country.
