Copper conc exports still intermittent amid indefinite strike in Peru

Peru’s Matarani port remained partially closed on Friday August 9 amid an indefinite strike being carried out in the southern province of Islay, making copper concentrate exports intermittent, according to multiple sources.

“We have intermittent access to the Matarani port, which is impacting our ability to bring in consumables,” Hudbay interim chief executive officer Peter Kukielski said in a conference call on Friday August 9. “We still have room to accommodate production in our new storage facility.”
According to the Peruvian coastguard authority, Dicapi, there are two of four docks currently closed at the port – Ocean Fish and dock c. Terminal Internacional del Sur (Tisur), which operates the Matarani port, is still running docks 1A and 1B.
