Nyrstar Port Pirie lead smelter outage to last 12 weeks, company confirms

Miner-smelter Nyrstar expects the most recent outage at its Port Pirie lead smelter in Australia to last for 12 weeks, owner Trafigura confirmed to Fastmarkets on Tuesday August 13.

Nyrstar had said earlier that an undescribed issue at Port Pirie’s TSL furnace would see it closed for “a number of weeks.”
The smelter operator, which was acquired by Trafigura on July 31, declared force majeure on Port Pirie-related contracts to customers and suppliers on Friday of last week and over the weekend.
