China’s plate producers cut export prices despite losses

Chinese plate producers lowered their export prices further over the past week despite already incurring losses as a result of weak demand in the domestic market and from abroad.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for September/October shipments of steel heavy plate export, fob China main port was $495-500 per tonne fob for the week ended Tuesday August 13, down $10 per tonne from a week earlier. Several major Chinese plate mills are offering their products at $505 per tonne fob this week, down $10 per tonne from $515 per tonne fob last week.
