TURKEY LONG STEEL: Prices plunge on weak demand, falling scrap costs, lira-dollar rates

Turkish domestic rebar prices slipped in the week ended Thursday September 5 amid weak demand in the local market, falling scrap costs and a strengthening of the country’s lira against the US dollar.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar) domestic, exw Turkey, was TRY2,910-2,940 ($511-517) per tonne on Thursday, down from last week’s TRY3,000-3,030 per tonne ex-works, including 18% VAT. The domestic rebar prices in the Izmir region were about TRY2,930-2,965 per tonne, while Marmara region prices were mainly TRY2,940 per tonne ex-works.
