CIS STEEL SLAB: Downtrend in finished steel sector depresses slab prices

Prices in the CIS export slab market have continued to fall in early September under pressure from the downtrend in the finished flat steel sectors, both in the customers’ domestic markets and in the CIS.

Flat steel prices have been softening amid the lack of buying activity and pessimistic expectations of further price weakening, Fastmarkets heard on Monday September 9. Fastmarkets’ assessment of the price of steel slab, export, fob Black Sea, CIS, was $385-390 per tonne on September 9, down from $400-410 per tonne a week earlier.
