Spot silicon price slumps to three-year low in US

The spot silicon price in the United States fell below $1 per lb on the low end of Fastmarkets' assessed range this week, and cheap imports continue to arrive in an already oversupplied domestic market, sources said.

There is almost universal agreement in the market that domestic producers’ cost of production is $1 per lb, prompting some sources to speculate that a new trade protection case is inevitable as market prices decline.
