Inner Mongolia SiMn output disruptions fail to support alloy price, dent ore buying interest

The lingering electricity restrictions in Inner Mongolia in China, which disrupted domestic silico-manganese production, failed to provide any support to the alloy price but dampened local alloy smelters’ manganese-ore purchasing appetite, market sources told Fastmarkets.

Alloy smelters in Inner Mongolia - one of China’s major production hubs for silico-manganese - have faced occasional power outages since late July, which has disrupted normal alloy production output, market sources said.
A local alloy plant told Fastmarkets that around 50% of its production had been reduced due to the electricity restrictions.

Other market participants agreed there had been an effect on local silico-manganese production but think the actual impact may be lower than 50%, adding that it is quite common for alloy plants in Inner Mongolia to face restrictions on the utilization...
