Turkish flat steel imports up 12.31% year on year in August

Turkey imported 514,866 tonnes of flat steel in August 2019, up by 12.31% from the corresponding month in 2018, when 458,445 tonnes arrived in the country, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) said this week.

Turkey’s domestic market has been in the doldrums since August 2018, when trade relations with the United States soured after US president Donald Trump doubled trade tariffs against the country’s products and the value of the Turkish lira fell against the US dollar.
