Vale’s iron ore production down 17% in Q3

Vale’s iron ore output dropped year on year in the third quarter, though it produced more of the steelmaking raw material than in the second quarter through a resumption of operations in its Southern and Southeastern Systems.

The Brazilian miner produced 86.70 million tonnes of iron ore from July to September, down 17.4% from 104.95 million tonnes a year earlier. The volume is still 35.4% higher than the second quarter’s 64.06 million tonnes. “The resumption of the Brucutu operations and the partial resumption of the dry-processing operations at the Vargem Grande Complex, announced in June and July respectively, contributed to this result,” Vale said on Monday October 14.
