CIS PIG IRON: Suppliers bullish on lower availability, better market mood in US

Pig iron exporters in the Commonwealth of Independent States have raised their offer prices to key outlet the United States on low material availability and better market fundamentals, market sources said.

CIS export offers to the US have increased to at least $320 per tonne cfr, which equates to close to $295 per tonne fob Black Sea, on “somewhat reduced availability and a positive trend in scrap and finished steel markets in the US”, one exporter told Fastmarkets, adding that exporters are increasing the use of pig iron in their own steel production.
