Chinese manganese ore imports up by 27% in Jan-Sep

China imported around 24.46 million tonnes of manganese ore in the first three quarters of 2019, an increase of 27.3% from 19.22 million tonnes in the same period of 2018, according to official but unconfirmed data seen by Fastmarkets.

The evident year-on-year increase over the past nine months has been cited as one of the main reasons behind a sharp decline in ore prices in China over the same period. Some market sources spoken to by Fastmarkets expect total imports throughout 2019 to be around 32 million tonnes.
