ACW 2019: Scrap renaming will dominate China’s copper market in 2020

A policy under which certain copper scrap products will be officially renamed “recyclable copper raw materials” will be the most-watched event in China’s copper market next year, delegates attending Fastmarkets’ Asia Copper Conference in Shanghai heard on Wednesday November 20.

“Going forward, attention in the copper scrap market should be paid to timeline for the reclassification, and what that will be,” Tracy Liao, head of China commodities strategy at Citi, said.
“It’s hard to talk about what the renaming policy will be - we have to wait for this,” Liao added.
