GLOBAL LITHIUM WRAP: Lithium prices flat amid year-end festive season

Prices for lithium in markets around the world held steady over the past week due to inactivity as a result of the year-end festive season, when many countries observe holidays for the Christmas and New Year.

China’s spot battery-grade lithium carbonate prices stabilized this week, with most buyers being reluctant to stock up on more materials since they will gradually stop production over the next few weeks ahead of the Chinese New Year.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for lithium carbonate, 99.5% Li2CO3 min, battery grade, spot price range exw domestic China was 45,000-51,000 yuan ($6,430-7,287) per tonne on Thursday December 26, unchanged from the preceding week. Prices had experienced a steady decline since the start of the year, when they were at 75,000-83,000 yuan per tonne.
