CIS PIG IRON: Market firm on low availability but no sales

The pig iron export market in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) remained firm on low material availability during the week ended Thursday January 16, although no sales were reported, sources told Fastmarkets.

“Last week was really quiet and I see that all players took their time this week too in order to check where the market level is,” one exporter said.
“There is definitely no pressure on the market from the supply side, as there are not large volumes of pig iron for February and March production available; there is even a shortage of material,” the exporter added.
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for high-manganese pig iron export, fob main port Black Sea, CIS, rose by $5-10 to $325-335 per tonne on Thursday, from $320-325 per tonne a week earlier.
