Fastmarkets’ price assessment for steel plate, import, cfr main ports South America
, was $530-540 per tonne on Friday January 24, unchanged for the second consecutive week and at its highest since September 20, 2019.
The plate market has become quiet over that period, because all of the cargoes for March shipments had been bought a week earlier. While Chinese material was most recently sold to the Pacific coast at $530-535 per tonne, Japan-origin heavy plate last changed hands in the same region closer to $540 per tonne.
