US structural tubing price drops again on negative HRC, demand

Prices for structural tubing in the United States came down again on Thursday February 6, with sellers and buyers both believing that the current soft demand and a negative market trend in hot-rolled coil would not support any pricing strength on structural tubing.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel hollow sections ASTM A500 Grade B domestic, fob mill US moved to $860-890 per short ton ($43-44.50 per hundredweight) on Thursday, down by 2.2% from $880-910 per ton the week before and down by 3.3% from $890-920 per ton a month earlier on January 2.
But even with that drop, some sources still had doubts about the lowered price's effectiveness in attracting buyers.
