Export prices for Chinese plate fall, but sales increase

China’s plate exporters secured more deals in the past week after mills lowered their offers amid a weak domestic market.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for March/April shipments of steel heavy plate export, fob China main port was $460-465 per tonne for the week ended Tuesday February 11, down by $20-25 per tonne from $480-490 per tonne fob a week earlier.
Several traders said that at least 20,000 tonnes of plate were sold to South Korea earlier this week via a transaction concluded at $470-475 per tonne cfr, or about $460-465 per tonne fob China.
