Teck suspends construction on QB2 copper project in defensive move against coronavirus

Teck Resources has suspended construction activities at its Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 (QB2) project in northern Chile to ensure employee safety and support Chilean efforts to limit transmission of the 2019-nCoV coronavirus.

The suspension will be for an initial two-week period, at which point Canada-headquartered Teck will reassess the status of the project in light of the rapidly evolving pandemic situation. 
The suspension will affect a total of around 15,000 workers on the QB2 project, which is expected to have average copper-equivalent production over the first five full years of 316,000 tonnes per year.
