Rio Tinto temporarily halts Kennecott copper mine after earthquake

Rio Tinto has temporarily halted all operations at its Kennecott copper mine in the US state of Utah following a 5.7-magnitude earthquake near the site earlier on Wednesday March 18.

The company, which operates the Bingham Canyon mine in Salt Lake City, has evacuated staff from key areas and is assessing the complex. So far, Rio Tinto has identified limited damage to the operation or risk to the surrounding community.
