Hudbay temporarily shuts down Peru's Constancia copper mine

Canada-based miner Hudbay Minerals will temporarily shut down its Constancia copper mine in Peru following the state of emergency declared by the government earlier this week amid the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) pandemic, the company said on Friday March 20.

The stoppage process is expected to happen over the next three days and Hudbay will keep personnel on-site to oversee health, safety and an efficient output ramp-up as soon as the situation improves, it added.
Constancia is located in Chumbivilcas province, in the southern region of Cusco. It produced 113,825 tonnes of copper, 55,506 oz of precious metals and 1,272 tonnes of molybdenum in 2019.
