BHP to restrict contract workers from entering Chile operations

BHP is to restrict the entry of workers from contractor companies at its Chilean operations for the next 15 days and said it will voluntarily assume the direct costs as an additional effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Decisions made after this period will be analyzed and communicated in due course, the company added.
The move comes while workers at the Escondida copper mine plan to ask the Chilean government to halt production at the site if its operator BHP does not adopt preventives measures to stop the spread of the virus.
