India’s Birla Copper puts smelter on maintenance amid coronavirus lockdown

India’s largest copper producer, Birla Copper, will put part of its smelting capacity on maintenance and slash production during a nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), sources told Fastmarkets on Tuesday March 24.

The copper division of Hindalco has a smelting capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year through three smelters at Dahej in the state of Gujarat on the northwest coast of India.
