Freeport extends Cerro Verde care and maintenance to April 12

A 15-day care and maintenance situation at Cerro Verde will be extended to April 12, in line with Peruvian government policy to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the copper mine’s owner and operator Freeport-McMoRan said.

The world's fourth-largest copper mine in output was suspended after the Peruvian government declared a national state of emergency - which has now been extended - earlier this month.
Freeport declared force majeure on near-term sales agreements last week, according to documents seen by Fastmarkets.
