Norsk Hydro delays Husnes ramp-up, starts temporary layoffs, freezes capex

Norsk Hydro has decided to postpone adding 95,000 tonnes per year to capacity at the Husnes aluminium plant in Norway in light of the rapidly deteriorating market conditions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ramp-up of Husnes was originally planned to begin in the first half of 2020, but has now been postponed to the third quarter at the earliest. This is also dependent on market developments and the outlook for the second half of the year, the Norwegian aluminium producer said.
The line was shut down in 2009, leaving capacity then running at 95,000 tonnes of primary aluminium per year.
Formerly known as Sør-Norge Aluminium (Søral), Husnes became a fully-owned by Norsk Hydro in November 2014.
