Asian slab import prices descend further toward 4-year low

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia tumbled further over the past week with the Covid-19 pandemic continuing to sap demand in the region.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for steel slab imports, cfr Southeast Asia and East Asia was $330-350 per tonne on Monday April 6, down by $20 per tonne from $350-370 per tonne a week earlier.
A Turkish mill was heard to have sold 30,000 tonnes of slab to Taiwan during the week, although this transaction could not be confirmed and no further information was available at the time of publication.
Slab produced in the Commonwealth of Independent States was offered to Taiwan and Southeast Asia at $345-355 per tonne cfr, while Brazilian slab was available at $365-370 per tonne cfr Taiwan.
