EUROPE BEAMS: Reversal of feedstock price falls gives market direction

Price ranges for steel H-beams in Europe narrowed on Wednesday April 8 ahead of potential increases to feedstock costs and news of the upcoming restart of some Italian producers, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel beams, domestic, delivered Northern Europe narrowed moved up on the low end of the range to €545-570 ($592-619) per tonne on Wednesday, from €530-570 per tonne one week previous.
“Next week, after the governments begin easing restrictions after Easter, trading will gradually build up,” a European producer source said. “There is a mix of market situations; Germany is still active, there is some impact in France and Belgium, Italy is more or less closed, and Spain is also in lockdown. Construction activity is not as badly affected as the automotive sector and is continuing as normal in some countries.”
