Five Chinese antimony smugglers arrested; impact on market limited

Five suspects were arrested and 250 tonnes of antimony ingot seized in the latest crackdown on antimony smuggling led by China’s Changsha Customs, the country’s General Administration of Customs said on its website on April 17.

Chinese market participants downplayed the impact of the news on domestic prices.
“There are not that many antimony smuggling activities since the stringent anti-smuggling movements were implemented in August 2018. We cannot say there is none, but at least it is not as apparent as it was in the past,” a Chinese market source said.
