Argentina's crude steel production plunges amid Covid-19 lockdown
Argentina’s crude steel output dropped by 74.5% on the year in April amid the Covid-19 pandemic, according to figures from its national steel association, Acero Argentino.
The country produced 107,100 tonnes of crude steel last month, compared with 420,900 tonnes a year earlier. Production is also 62.6% lower than in March, when 286,200 tonnes of crude steel were produced, the association said earlier this week.
Government measures to contain the spread of the virus, which entailed the suspension of all non-essential activities, severely affected steel production in Argentina.
