Tungsten prices under pressure amid weak consumer demand

Weak consumer demand continued to put downward pressure on ammonium paratungstate (APT) and ferro-tungsten prices in the week ending Friday May 15.

The two markets have been under pressure for the past few months with the spread of the Covid-19 virus continuing to reduce demand for tungsten products.
Fastmarkets’ price assessment for tungsten APT, 88.5% WO3 min, Europe, cif Rotterdam and Baltimore duty-free, fell to $210-220 per metric tonne unit, down 2.3% from the previous assessment of $215-225 per mtu.

The APT market is trading at its lowest level since October last...
