ITA adds voice to calls to aid artisanal miners during Covid-19

The International Tin Association (ITA) has echoed “emergency calls” to protect vulnerable artisanal miners during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is said to jeopardize a decade of progress in responsibly sourcing metals and minerals.

Tin has featured prominently in such efforts because much of it is mined by hand.
“Artisanal and small scale (ASM) miners … in some years can contribute up to 40% of the world’s tin supply,” the ITA said in a statement on Thursday May 28, amplifying comments made by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
