US structural tubing price flat; mill price increases questioned

The price for hollow structural sections (HSS) in the United States was flat for the second consecutive week on Thursday June 4, but some market participants questioned the staying power of tube mill price increases while others shared mixed demand outlooks.

“There have been increases which haven’t stuck - basically nobody’s accepting them,” one distributor said. “There seems to be a wide spread [in prices]: You call one place, it’s one price; you call another place and it’s 3-4 cents cheaper,” he continued, referring to large-volume deals.
