US hot-rolled index steady at $24/cwt; new Covid-19 cases worrying

Prices for hot-rolled coil in the United States ended the week mostly steady, but more sources expressed concerns over surging Covid-19 cases across the country, saying the rising number of infections may further hurt the steel industry and the economy as a whole.

Fastmarkets’ daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $24 per hundredweight ($480 per short ton) on Friday June 26, up slightly from $23.90 per cwt on Thursday June 25 and up by 0.3% from $23.94 per cwt a week ago on June 19.
Inputs were again received in a range of $22-27 per cwt range - a relatively large spread of $5 per cwt.
