US structural tubing price down; demand steady

The price for hollow structural sections (HSS) in the United States fell on Thursday July 16, but market participants expressed cautious optimism on demand with most noticing an uptick in orders.

“From what I see, further reductions [in business] seem unlikely at this time; tubing is steady to trending up this week," one distributor source said. Fastmarkets’ assessment for steel hollow sections ASTM A500 Grade B domestic, fob mill US was at $760-800 per short ton on ($38-40 per hundredweight) on Thursday, widening downward by $20 from $780-800 per ton the previous week. The range was also down by 6% from $800-860 per ton one month ago and 11.4% from $860-900 per ton one year...
