Mexican city partly closes ArcelorMittal Lázaro Cárdenas mill amid tax dispute

ArcelorMittal México’s integrated steel mill at Lázaro Cárdenas, in the country’s western Michoacán state, has been partly closed by local municipal officials because of alleged tax irregularities, the company said on Thursday July 23.

The Lázaro Cárdenas city authorities claim that ArcelorMittal has failed to pay its full property taxes in the past six years, and have demanded payment of 130 million pesos ($5.8 million).
