EUROPE WIRE ROD: Prices climb higher despite low season

Domestic prices for steel mesh-quality wire rod moved up in the north of Europe on strong demand while in the south, producers managed to achieve slight increases in deals, despite seasonal buying slowdown, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday August 5.

Buying activity was good in the north of the region during the assessment week, supported by a strong construction sector, market participants said.
"Order intake in July-August exceeded the previous year's levels. This is partly because we have a backlog of demand due to pandemic-related lockdowns. Generally, we expect the long steel market to continue growing till the year end," one producer said.
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Northern Europe was €440-460 ($519-543) per tonne on August 5, up from €430-450 per tonne last week.
