EUROPE WIRE ROD: Prices steady in seasonally quiet market, but mills consider increases for September

Domestic prices for steel mesh-quality wire rod in Europe remained broadly stable over the past seven days; buying activity was reported to be good in the north of the region and close to zero in the south due to seasonal factors, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday August 12.

Northern Europe
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Northern Europe was €440-460 ($515-538) per tonne on August 12, the same as last week.
The assessment reflects deals and offers heard in the market. Sources reported most deals at the lower end of the price range.
"€450-460 [per tonne, delivered] is the price for a small volume order," a mill source said.
In the north of Europe, trading activity was reported to be strong in most countries, driven by a well-performing construction sector.
