EUROPE REBAR: German mills push for higher prices; market on pause in south

Steel rebar producers in the north of Europe pushed for higher prices to cover costlier scrap this week, while in the south of region market activity was reported to be minimal due to the summer holidays, sources said.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Northern Europe was €450-460 ($526-538) per tonne on Wednesday August 12, the same as a week ago.
But several sources said steel rebar producers are targeting a new level of €470 per tonne delivered due to increases in the scrap feedstock price.

The new offer was included in the assessment this week because no deals have been reported at this level...
