China’s manganese ore imports up 35% in July vs prior month

China’s imports of manganese ore totaled approximately 2.95 million tonnes in July, an increase of 35.2% from 2.18 million tonnes in June and the highest volume in a single month since December 2019, according to the latest available Chinese customs data.

But July’s volume is about 4.5% lower than the 3.09 million tonnes imported in the same month of 2019, the data showed.
Of the total volume imported in July, around 1.16 million tonnes (39.4%) originated from South Africa, one of the largest producers of manganese ore in the world. This compares with the 724,794 tonnes that the African nation supplied to China in June, equivalent to 33.2% of total Chinese imports that month.
